	xpdf only looks for Type1 fonts and doesn't use X fonts, as far as I can
	tell.  This is a problem if you don't have gsfonts, because PDFs that
	require fonts that aren't embedded will give you
	"No display font for 'Times-Italic'" and things and not print the text.
	One solution to ensure this doesn't happen is to depend on gsfonts.
