How-To-Repeat: 	Build ripe-whois from port without IPv6. Run it. You'll have

	whois3: cannot create the socket: Protocol not supported

The following patch seems to resolve this issue, tested on 4.10-RELEASE
compiled without INET6. Also bump portrevision.
