japanese/xdvik requires NeedWidePrototypes set to 1 to handle japanese (wide) characters. But, because X.org 7.2 defines NARROWPROTO in X11/Xfuncproto.h by default and it causes NeedWidePrototypes set to 0, xdvi does not show any japanese characters. How-To-Repeat: Create a latex source file including japanese text, convert it to dvi using platex, and run xdvi for the dvi file.
