It seems that the maintainer update of www/polipo was committed with a slight difference in the patch to files/polipo.sh.in, specifically the exclusion of the -f switch to rm. If the pidfile is already nonexistent, rm without the -f switch will return a non-zero exit code and the rc.subr system will consider the precmd as failed and abort (unless using forcestart), resulting in the polipo process not being started. Adding the -f switch, as in the original patch proposed by the port's maintainer, should prevent this from occuring.
