Description M. Draney 2007-11-28 22:40:02 UTC
I built XFCE4 from ports using updated ports as of 11/27/2007. Xfce starts up and runs fine. Everything works until I try to move any application icon around on the taskbar or iconbox. For example if I move the clock from the iconbox to the taskbar above the taskbar and iconbox disappear. Presumably they are crash. The rest of the XFCE desktop remains. The devices on the desktop and when I left click the menu appears. When I shutdown X there are no messages showing error. Everything else seems to be working so far on my transition to 7.0.

Fix:

Not known
How-To-Repeat: Move any icon around the taskbar or iconbox by left clicking the item and selecting move.

Hi,

have you tried rebuilding all yourr ports (all!) after you've upgraded to
7.0B3? This is a required scenario.

Greetings, Oliver
Comment 3 M. Draney 2007-11-30 11:43:36 UTC
It was a fresh installation of 7.0. I rebuilt all of the ports twice.

Just ran into the same situation. This is a clean install of 7.0-Beta3
(amd64) on VMWare Workstation 6. So far I've built ccache, xorg,
xfce4, and slim ports. Since I've had some problems with ccache before
I decided to rebuild panel without it, that didn't help. Will let you
know if I find a possible solution.

Beside my FreeBSD 6 boxes, I only have a CURRENT box running already 8.
Over the last days I tried several situations, but all leading to the
same thing. I can move every icon in panel 1 to every place in panel 1
I also can move every item between both panels.
So - I'm not able to reproduce this error on FreeBSD 8.
I don't have a FreeBSD 7 system around.

I do not understand it either. It works on both i386 and amd64 versions of 6.0 for me also. I have not tried i386 7.0 which I may give a shot. I am at a loss. Maybe xfce 4.4.2 will fix it but who knows.

Comment 7 Maxim Khitrov 2007-12-12 22:58:24 UTC
I just updated everything on my system, including all the ports,
kernel, and base OS. It's now running 7.0-BETA4. Unfortunately the
problem persists. I think at this point it may be worth updating the
xfce ports to the 4.4.2 to see if, like Thomas said, that resolves the
problem. I don't have any other FreeBSD workstations to test this
with, and can't install xorg on the servers.

The only setting in make.conf that could have affected compilation for
me is CPUTYPE=core2, everything else is on default values. I tried
rebuilding the panel without that and nothing changed. Actually, now
that I think about it, xfce was running fine on my laptop (6.2) a few
months ago before I switched it to gnome. Don't remember what version
of xfce that was though.
