*I have more than one virtual machine, both don't work
*Work fine for the longest time.
*fwiw: using zfs KVA=512 on a 2GB Machine, just added another drive to the zpool.

Come to think of it, I did just compile my kernel after doing an svn update, hope this wasn't the cause of the problem. And since I've made minor changes (KVA=512 -> 500 -> 512) and adding a few device quirks, I don't have the old kernel where things DID work.

It looks like an alignment problem with a struct member in
src/recompiler/target-i386/cpu.h.  I've added a patch to
usr/ports/emulators/virtualbox-ose/files/ which seems to fix the problem
on my end, but I need testers and tips on how to formally submit a patch
since this'll be my first ever to the FreeBSD project :-)
I'll post the patch here and host a tarball of the updated port on my
website at http://www.qtchat.org/virtualbox-ose-3.1.6-2.tgz.

Apparently the latest version of VirtualBox-OSE is 3.2.4 (
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/ports/emulators/virtualbox-ose/ )
and I have no idea if this issue is resolved in this release or not.

Just FYI:
I am using FreeBSD 9-CURRENT (r209729) and tried VirtualBox from the
ports tree. After creating a machine, it couldn't be started, but
aborted with the message mentioned in ports/144959.
Applying Anthony Jenkins' patch resolved the issue (thanks to him!).

Another follow-up:

Bug still persists on FreeBSD 9.0-CURRENT (r214000), using 
virtualbox-ose-3.2.10, and is solved by the patch by Anthony Jenkins (a 
big thank you from my part, as this was bugging me since quite a while, 
and I couldn't find the cause).

Maybe it's time to include that patch in the ports tree?
