Description joe 2006-10-28 04:40:17 UTC
On a fresh installation of FreeBSD (with both the default kernel and my
own), doing a 'kldload snd_emu10k1' seems to hang the system. Oddly, doing
a kldload of snd_driver works perfectly. Also, loading snd_emu10k1 from
the loader prior to booting works beautifully. The problem only occurs
when doing a kldload of snd_emu10k1 after the system has booted. Sometimes
it prints a message saying that pcm0 was found before it hangs, sometimes
it prints nothing at all. I'm using an Athlon64 3000 with an NForce4
chipset. Below is my dmesg output. If you need anything else, do not
hesitate to let me know. I personally find it odd that it seems to work just
fine if I load snd_driver. Is there some sort of missing kld dependency?
I noticed this same kind of behavior before on an older Athlon XP/Via
system of mine which also had a SoundBlaster Live (I can't give you any
info, because it died on me). Also, I'm good with C, so if you need any
help finding the point at which it fails, I'll do my best.
