$ man ntpd Problems. As in front of it in $MANPATH is: /usr/share/man/man8/ntpd.8.gz and all the other man pages for ntpd from base. I happened to realise what was happening, so I could have a look at man(1) and: $ man -M /usr/local/man: ntpd which prepends that path to $MANPATH and you then get to see the page from the port. I mentioned it on docs@ & was advised by Ben Kaduk that it merited a pr: https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-doc/2020-May/034058.html
A commit references this bug: Author: naddy Date: Mon May 18 19:36:52 UTC 2020 New revision: 535779 URL: https://svnweb.freebsd.org/changeset/ports/535779 Log: Add a note in pkg-message that you need to override the manual search path to view the correct ntpd(8) man page. PR: 246484 Changes: head/net/openntpd/Makefile head/net/openntpd/files/pkg-message.in
This also affects, even more so, the net/ntp and net/ntpsec ports. There is no good solution. I have added a note in pkg-message.
