	The Alpha microprocessor, was originally developed by DEC, introduced

	in 1992. At this time, Alpha was regarded as fastest CPU in the world.

	Compaq, which bought DEC, announced that computers using Alpha would be phased out

	by 2004 in favour of Intel's Itanium. Hewlett-Packard, new owner of

	Compaq announced to support the Alpha series for a few more years	but this will be the end of the lifetime.

	Intels IA-64 will be the replacement of this series.
