It is not possible to update it later because it is the one with two or more versions like emacs 
and there is contradiction in the CONFLICTS line.

How-To-Repeat: 1. install editors/emacs-devel
2. install editors/emacs19
3. portupgrade -f editors/emacs-devel

Issue was resolved in revision 1.61 of the Makefile which added the 
necessary CONFLICTS.
