Description Dieter Houthooft 2007-08-30 17:20:10 UTC
When the dell poweredge 860 running 6.2 stable is stressed it hangs. There is no panic or any other output, the machine is just totally unresponsive (network and console). When ACPI is disabled the same amounts of stress do not result in freebsd hanging.

This happened on all my poweredge 860 (6 machines). I noticed it first while installing a whole bunch of packages at once, but this was difficult to repeat. Later I used the sysutils/stress tool to make the machines hang every time.

Fix: Disable ACPI.

Patch attached with submission follows:
How-To-Repeat: Take a dell poweredge 860
Install 6.2 stable, ACPI enabled
install sysutils/stress
run: stress --cpu 4 --io 4 --vm 4 --hdd 4 -t 600

Hello, is this still a problem on recent versions of FreeBSD?
Comment 2 dieter.houthooft 2010-07-15 13:24:33 UTC
Last time I tested I used FreeBSD 7.X. The problem was still present.

A remark on my original entry: disabling ACPI did not help, it only
delayed the problem.

This might be related to ACPI, reopen and assign

Can you still reproduce this on a supported release?
