"Return to Castle Wolfenstein" ist started with "wolfsp". 
It starts, intro is seen, menu worlks too. But when starting a new game, loading screen appears for a short time and then the game shuts down.

How-To-Repeat: I've tried multiple times to start the game, but it showed always the same behavior. Also, restart of the computer or reinstall of the game did not help.

Hello.

Currently I don't have FreeBSD 7 to test it, but works on 6. So I think
this is a problem with the Linux compatibility (not necessarily a bug
in the later, but maybe a little hack in the port is needed).

The correct place to ask this would be emulation@.

Also could you please try if similar ports work, like
Quake 3 (the RTCW engine is almost identical), Doom 3 and Quake 4
(there are demo versions of all of these)?

I've tried starting rtcw and linux-doom3 with latest patches of xorg.
Both applications did not run. Rtcw started, but when I wanted to start
a new game it crashed. Linux-doom3 did not start anyway.

Hello.

I guess I should have asked you to try this before: do similar but
native applications run (for example games/iourbanterror and
games/openarena)?

If they do I'll ask on the emulation@ list, otherwise I don't know
(have you tried with software OpenGL?). A kernel trace (see ktrace(1))
may reveal more information.
