State Changed From-To: open->feedback I can't reproduce this problem using 3.2-RELEASE sources. Nor with STABLE nor with CURRENT. For me to take this any further, I'll need to see a more detailed description of what you're doing and what you see. Responsible Changed From-To: freebsd-bugs->sheldonh I'll take this one. Hi Joseph, Let me start with the last thing you said in your e-mail, since I think we need to clear something up: On Mon, 02 Aug 1999 18:52:40 MST, Joseph Altea wrote: > I am planning to use it for our production tftpd server, but I will > probably have to go with Linux if no one will help me resolve this > issues. You're welcome to use whatever platform you wish to, and this kind of arm-twisting is unnecessary and ugly given that FreeBSD is brought to you by volunteers. We responded to your initial report in very little time at all, much faster than many commercial ventures would have. I explained quite explicitly in my response that I needed more detail from you. Why would I ask for more detail if I was not prepared to help you? In your initial report, you said you couldn't compile tftpd. Now you say that you can, but you don't say what the problem was. Now the problem you're having has changed and you're still not giving us enough information to help you. So, let's see if we can handle this rationally: > When I run the tftpd it returns: > > Socket operation on non socket > it will not run - not off the cd > version or the compiled. You've given us an error message, and that's a start. But may I suggest that you provide us with the following: 1) What are you trying to do? 2) What do you expect to see? 3) What do you see instead? You've given us the last of the 3. What we don't know is _how_ you're trying to launch tftpd, how the client tries to connect to it, etc. If you can cut and paste error messages and config lines (and tell us where you cut them from), that'll be ideal. I sincerely hope we can help you with your problem and I assure you that our interest in seeing you satisfied with the software has nothing to do with what you may or may not threaten to use in its place. The sooner you give us the information we've asked for (twice now), the sooner someone it likely to look into your problem. Did you actually get my previous e-mail message in which I asked you to send more information? Check out your PR at http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=12846 Please send a How-To-Repeat that I can use to test and investigate the problem. Ciao, Sheldon. Please type tftpd at the prompt. In the installed OS from the CD it errors out with the socket operation on non-socket. Thanks so much for your help. I would love to use FreeBSD and all the really nice network and web tools. Thank you!!! Finally you offer me something I can use! If you'd told me
before that you're running tftpd from the command-line, I could have
helped you long ago.
Please read the tftpd manpage and try running tftpd from inetd as
directed.
Thanks,
Sheldon.
Hi Joseph, So have you managed to get tftpd running out of inetd? I'd appreciate feedback. Even if you have it working, I'd still like to know so that I can close your PR. Ciao, Sheldon. State Changed From-To: feedback->closed Timed out waiting for feedback from originator. I'm pretty sure this one was pilot error. We have made a determination that FReeBSD support is insufficient for our needs. We have gone with a product with support, RedHat Linux. Since they are public and will offer us good support we have chosen them as our prefered platform for future developement.
