The current version of the FreeBSD Project favicon (*) has only 256 colors and no alpha channel transparency. As a result, it looks somewhat choppy in every modern web browser.

Fix: 

I have prepared a new 24 bit version of the FreeBSD Project favicon. It is available at:

http://noc.ntua.gr/~christia/freebsd-favicon-24bit.ico

Feel free to use it as you wish.

Any objections from other freebsd-www people?

The new icon does look much better, so if there is no serious reason why
we can't replace it, I'd like to commit the icon submitted by Panagiotis.

Thank you Panagioti!  It took me a while to notice the new 
favicon.ico image, but it does indeed look much better. 
I've replaced the old image with your version in revision 1.3

Since there have been no objections for a couple of weeks, I committed
the new icon in revision 1.3.  Thanks :)
