Habia configurado X para que corra con KDe en una maquina virtual VMWare.
Drivers de VMWare, funcionando bien.
En determinado momento tuve que reiniciar la maquina virtual...
y a partir de ahi no carga el entorno grafico.

El archivo de registro de errores indica:

(WW) xf86EnableIO: Failed to open /dev/io for extended I/O (EE) No devices detected.

Fatal server error:
 No screens found.
