The tape drive used is: 
wdc1: unit 1 (atapi): <Seagate STT20000A/8.25>, removable, accel, dma, iordis
wst0: Unknown media (0xb7), reverse, qfa, ecc, 512b
wst0: Max speed=1000Kb/s, Transfer limit=52 blocks, Buffer size=728 blocks

while trying to label the tape with the amlabel program from the amanda
backup system suite, the program outputs:

bash#/usr/local/sbin/amlabel -f normal BackupSet0
rewinding, reading label BackupSet0
rewinding, writing label BackupSet0

and hangs.

The /var/log/messages output is:
