Description nicolas.blanc 1999-11-03 06:40:00 UTC
I try to boot with a 3.3 kern.flp image but it can't find my Smart Array 3200 Controller, i can't even find it in the kern configuration menu.
I 'm not very easy with FBSD as i WAS a BSDI user, but i'd like to go on with it....
My machine is a Compaq Proliant 3000 (PII 500 / 512 M)... Thanks in Adv

You may wish to go to:

  http://testdrive.compaq.com

and get more information from there. Compaq
is unofficially supporting FreeBSD. The
Dual Xeon PII@450MHX that they list is undoubtedly
a Proliant with an array controller.

What U need to do, is to have someone build a kernel for you, with support
for the Compaq RAID controller (IDA device), then you copy that kernel to
the kern.flp floppy, and boot with that one instead. Before booting your
machine after installing, you change to the Virtual console started (ALT+F4)
and then goto /sys/i386/conf and make a kernel with the IDA controller,
before you reboot. Then everything should work.

Im making an entry for the handbook this very moment, so look out for more
info on the IDA drivers/software.

State Changed
From-To: open->closed

This device is supported in -CURRENT and the relevent changes will
be backported to 4-STABLE once they have had sufficient testing
in -CURRENT.

It is unlikely that the driver will be extended to allow support of this
device in 3-STABLE.
