Bug 150909

Summary: [hang] FreeBSD freezes a few minutes booting on Intel s5500wb board
Product: Base System Reporter: Anton Statutov <astatutov>
Component: amd64Assignee: freebsd-amd64 (Nobody) <amd64>
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: 8.1-RELEASE
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description Anton Statutov 2010-09-24 12:20:01 UTC
After boot loader multi choice menu FreeBSD 8.0 waits about 2 minutes to
boot just showing "|" sign.

Here are the same problem reports:
http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/FreeBSD/questions/2010-01/msg00983.html

Also, switching between virtual consoles takes about 1-2 seconds, so I
think this problem can be related with the new TTY subsystem.

How-To-Repeat: Buy Intel s5500wb board, then boot FreeBSD 8.1

Can this be related to number of disks/partition that you have, your hardware or
BIOS configuration, etc?
It's also not clear from your report whether the initial delay is in loader or
in kernel.
Enabling debug in loader, verbose messages in kernel and sending us a link to a
screenshot taken during freeze would be a good start.
