Bug 152874

Summary: [install] 8.1 install fails where 7.3 works due to lack of choice of CD drive [regression]

Description Pete French 2010-12-06 23:40:09 UTC
trying to insall 8.1 on a machine with two CD drives fails
with the error "The disc in your drive looks more like an Audio
disc than a FreeBSD release". If I try and install 7.3
instead, I get and extra step in the dialog which allows me to
choose which of the two CD drives (cd0 or acd0) to use. The 7.3
install works, where the 8.1 install fails.

Fix:

Workaround is to install 7.3 and then upgrade to 8.1, but it is
	not ideal.
How-To-Repeat:
Try and install 8.1 onto a machine with 2 drives as described
and observe that it cant find the correct drive. 7.3 should work.

Or boot into your BIOS and change one of the CDROM/DVD drives to an off
state so its not picked up by the install.

Given this is still a problem but at least you have two workarounds.

I hadn't actually though of trying that - I will give it a shot later
if I get an opportunity and see if it fixes it. I have a feeling that
the actual problem is it not seeing the 2nd CD at all after ome investigation
though - possibly due to USB differences between 7 and 8.
