When doing an FTP install of FreeBSD > 2.2.8, the machine will hang at 1024 bytes.

How-To-Repeat: Install FreeBSD via FTP using an Intel EtherExpress Pro/10+ ISA card!

Does this problem still occur in newer versions of FreeBSD, 
such as 4.3-RELEASE?
