Description noah 2000-01-29 04:40:02 UTC
When I try to install over ftp, I use the 2 boot disks and then I allcate the entire disk for freebsd, then I have FreeBsd auto layout the partition. Next I say I want to customize the instaliation, then I get a signal 11, and I can't seem to get freebsd installed.

>> Fix:

The odds are fairly high that you have faulty hardware on your mainboard.
If signal 11's tend to happen at pseudo-random times during the installation
process there are strong odds you have a piece of ailing hardware.

All the signal 11 problems I've ever had have stemmed from bad RAM.
Although I've heard that other hardware failures will also cause them (such
as a bad motherboard).

I hope this helps you resolve your probelm.

See http://www.freebsd.org/releases/3.4R/errata.html for a description of
this problem, and two workarounds.
