Bug 17248

Summary: FreeBSD 3.4 won't install on 486/100 IBM Blue Lightning
Product: Base System Reporter: jon <jon>
Component: kernAssignee: freebsd-bugs (Nobody) <bugs>
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: 3.4-RELEASE
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description jon 2000-03-07 17:10:01 UTC
bootstrap loader works fine. Get visual install mode, take out only
those things providing CONF (Or take out everything I don't have, either
way). 'Q' to save/boot. Machine starts to boot, finds devices. Just
after npx0 at 0xf0-0xff irq 13 on motherboard it faults with:
Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
fault virtual address = 0xca57
fault code = supervisor read, page not present
instruction pointer = 0x8:0xca57
stack pointer = 0x10:0xc060ee58
frame pointer = 0x10:0xc060ee74
code segment = base rx0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
 = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0
current process = 0 ()
interrupt mask = net tty bio cam
trap number = 12
panic: page fault
Automatic reboot in 15 seconds ...

Fix:

Could NOT find a fix. Have switched keyboards/harddrives/mem config/
taken everything out of the machine except video card (and even tried
different video cards), STILL cannot get freebsd to load
How-To-Repeat: ANY combination of the visual kernel config during install seems to
cause this.

Can you try this with FreeBSD 4.3?
