Update the GNU M4 package, devel/gm4 to install the current version.
Then build autoconf again. It should work without further problems.

Old PR, no longer relevant -- clean systems build this just fine, 
otherwise there'd be a long line of pitchfork-waving folks outside 
my window.  Well, longer than normal.
