Bug 17589

Summary: ata crashes when trying to extract cd-da using dagrab
Product: Base System Reporter: fabi <fabi>
Component: kernAssignee: Søren Schmidt <sos>
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: Unspecified
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description fabi 2000-03-25 00:40:01 UTC

When I try to extract CD-DA from an cd with 2s-breaks beetween the
tracks, it causes no problems until the drive reaches the end
of the track and the 2 seconds which are displayed as '-2' and '-1'
in normal CD-players. But then the system hangs up (after about
5 seconds I can't do anything) and the kernel gives that output:

	acd0: READ_CD command timeout - resetting
	ata1: resetting devices .. ata1-slave: timeout waiting for command=ef s=	d0 e=68
	done
	ata1-slave: timeout waiting to give command=a0 s=d0 e=68
acd0: failure to send ATAPI packet command
acd0: failure to execute ATAPI packet command
	acd0: READ_CD command timeout - resetting

	and so on...

ps: If I try to reboot by pressing alt-ctrl-del, the system won't do
that and the kernel outputs similar messages for ad2 (ata1-master)
So the shutdown process can't turn ad2 off and I finally have to
	    use the hardware reset.
I am sorry, but it didn't log the messages. :(

Fix:

Workaround: Burn CDs in disc-at-once mode.
Fix: Don't know such things. :(
How-To-Repeat:

Insert an audio CD with 2s breaks.
Type "dagrab 1" or "dagrab 2", etc.

From 4.2 onwards you dont need a grapper anymore, just
use dd and copy the tracks from /dev/acdXtN.
