Bug 18786

Summary: SCSI hangs during FreeBSD 4.0 installation,
Product: Base System Reporter: serhad <serhad>
Component: miscAssignee: freebsd-bugs (Nobody) <bugs>
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: Unspecified
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description serhad 2000-05-24 00:50:00 UTC
Mother Board: Super Micro PIIIDM3
On-board SCSI Controller (Adaptec AIC-7892)
QUANTUM V Atlas 36.4GB ULTRA-160 SCSI Drive 7200 rpm

SCSI write fails during early stage of FreeBSD 4.0 installation.
Note that Red Hat 6.1 installed just fine so it is not hardware issue
but rather a SCSI driver problem.

I don't have the error code at this point. (However, if there is no
other option, I might try that configuration again.)

Fix:

Currently I am using Adaptec AIC-2940 U2W PCI SCSI card.
How-To-Repeat: Create the partions, label them, select the desired options and start
the installation. As /bin is extracted, you get a SCSI error and the
installation is aborted.

Is this still a problem with more recent releases?

Submitter says that the hardware on which this problem occurred
is no longer in service. Thanks for the reply!
