Oops meant to include more detail there, but hit enter and that submitted the bug... Anyway, the issue is that bugzilla sends far more email than it seems it really needs to.

Yesterday I received 14 emails as a result of a user updating bug 184592. Granted 1/2 of those were because I was subscribed to the bug and to the ruby@ list which was also subscribed to the bug, but even so, 7 emails seems like more than was needed.

Perhaps it would have helped in this particular case if bugzilla didn't send an email when the user changed the mime type of an attachment, which seemed to happen several times. I am not sure why the user did that, perhaps it wasn't displaying the way he wanted in the browser.

Please revise your settings for receiving email from Bugzilla. You can adjust thme to your liking, reducing the amount of mail, you will receive on bug changes.

This isn't about individual preferences, this is the defaults that need changing, as it also affects assignees such as freebsd-doc@ which can't really change preferences.

Right now, the amount of email generated is insane.

Definitely an opportunity to improve UX (not just for notifications) by setting good global defaults. I've looked into Bugzilla global preferences in the past and I'll look into email preferences again specifically.

Can you define a set pf sane settings? I'll check for a way to squeeze them into Bugzilla then.

Gavin: I'm still missing a set of sane settings for this. Can you please provide them?

Gavin: anything new on this?
