The handbook says in "6.5.2. Configuring Xorg": By default, Xorg uses HAL to autodetect keyboards and mice. This is not true for FreeBSD 10.1, Xorg autoconfiguration works without HAL for keyboards and mice. $ pkg info xorg-server [...] Options : DEVD : on HAL : off SUID : on
