Typing octave at the command prompt causes this and a core dump on my Freebsd 10-stable box.

$ octave
octave exited with signal 11

Also segfaults with signal 11 on 10.2-RELEASE.

Try using it on 11.1. I've just tested it on 12a, and it works fine. 10.2 is no longer supported, btw.
