while trying to boot the machine from a floppy with the image of
kern.flp i receive the following:

zf_read: fill error
elf_loadexec: archsw.readin failed

any suggestions?

Sounds like the floppy disk is damaged or the kern.flp wasn't completly
written to the disk. Can you try rewriting kern.flp on a different disk?
