But RFC 2476 which defines it is nearly 21 years old. I think the "recent but growing in popularity" language should be removed.

So here's the thing about the FAQ.

tl:dr; it needs to die.

Longer explanation:

The fate of the "information in the FAQ" has been debated to death for years.  My recommendation is to figure out ways to update documentation information in the mainline docs and/or the wiki first, and then leave the FAQ garbage-pile for later.
