Description John Darrah 2020-09-07 03:00:01 UTC
Hello:

I have noticed on several ports, the names of which escape me atm, there have been a request for volunteer maintainers. I would like to throw my name in the hat of whichever ports/pkgs need a maintainer. I have never worked in this manner, but I have the ability to learn and am definitely willing! :-)

Please let me know,
John Darrah

^Triage: closing as not actually a problem report. But see below.

Thank you for volunteering.

There are a zillion unmaintained ports:

  https://www.freshports.org/search.php?stype=maintainer&method=exact&query=ports%40FreeBSD.org&num=100&orderby=category&orderbyupdown=asc&search=Search&format=html&branch=head

"Number of ports: 3678 (showing only 100 on this page)"

OK yikes :-)

My recommendation is to start by looking at ports that you have installed that are maintained by "ports@FreeBSD.org" (e.g. no one in particular) and see if you have any issues with them.

You can also search Bugzilla or Phabricator for updates or bugs by searching on "<category>/<portname>" meaning substitute the exact characters for those strings.

Next, please see:

  https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/contributing/ports-contributing.html

which has much more information that I can reproduce here.

Finally, if you use IRC, please feel free to join us on #bsdports on EFNet.

Good luck!
