/etc/os-release symbolic link isn't created if you upgrade from 12.1-RELEASE to 12.2-BETA2 with regular steps described in /usr/src/Makefile. This problem doesn't happen if you use freebsd-update. The source is that there no logic to handle symbolic links in mergemaster. And patch to fix it is submitted as bug 242212.

Given that bug 242212 is fixed, this can be considered fixed as well, right?

This should be closed, 12-RELEASE is EOL.
