Created attachment 218967 [details] System volume slider does not work, except muting at lowest level I have recently upgraded Gnome to 3.38 on a FreeBSD-12.1 system. I am using a DH67CL Intel mainboard with i3-2120 processor and using HDMI output for sound. The sound slider on the upper right corner does nothing if I increase or decrease. However, If I slide it down, the sound mutes. I checked that my device is a Intel Cougar Point HDMI output and it has a 'Vol' and 'PCM' as controls listed in mixertui. If I adjust 'PCM', I can increase or decrease sound volume. So, I believe Gnome's volume control is mapped to 'Vol'. So, in order to get sound volume control to work, mapping system sound in Gnome to 'PCM' is needed. I had also tried adding HDMI device details to /boot/device.hints and it did not work. Please help to make the sound volume control in Gnome-3.38 work. Let me know, if any other details needed. :~% cat /dev/sndstat Installed devices: pcm0: <Realtek ALC892 (Rear Analog 5.1/2.0)> (play/rec) default pcm1: <Realtek ALC892 (Front Analog)> (play/rec) pcm2: <Realtek ALC892 (Rear Digital)> (play) pcm3: <Realtek ALC892 (Rear Digital)> (play) pcm4: <Intel Cougar Point (HDMI/DP 8ch)> (play) dmesg: pcm4: <Intel Cougar Point (HDMI/DP 8ch)> at nid 7 on hdaa1 pcm4: Playback: pcm4: Stream cap: 0x00000005 AC3 PCM pcm4: PCM cap: 0x001e07f0 16 20 24 32 bits, 32 44 48 88 96 176 192 KHz pcm4: DAC: 4 pcm4: pcm4: nid=7 [pin: Digital-out (Jack)] pcm4: + <- nid=4 [audio output] [src: pcm] pcm4: pcm4: Master Volume (OSS: vol): 0/0dB pcm4: +- ctl 3 (nid 7 in ): mute pcm4: pcm4: PCM Volume (OSS: pcm): 0/0dB pcm4: +- ctl 3 (nid 7 in ): mute :~% pciconf -vl hdac0@pci0:0:27:0: class=0x040300 card=0x20038086 chip=0x1c208086 rev=0x05 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller' class = multimedia subclass = HDA
