I suggest adding "Unix: A History and a Memoir" by Brian Kernighan (https://www.cs.princeton.edu/~bwk/memoir.html) to the B.8. UNIX® History section of the FreeBSD handbook.

Glad to hear!

I sure would like to make a patch. I touched FreeBSD for the first time last week, so I'm very new to this and how the community works. Might take some time, but I'll try. Would the best thing be to attach an svn patch here?

A commit-ready patch would be perfect, but it's also fine if you just submit a plain-text paragraph (i.e., the actual content) that you think should be included in the chapter. The doc committers can handle the formatting part if necessary.
