When I install FreeBSD in the list of devices I cannot see my CDROM.
 - My BIOS (Phoenix IDE/PCI) can't detect and boot IDE CDROMs

How-To-Repeat: Install IDE CD-ROM with BIOS without CD autodetect

Sounds like a BIOS problem, not an ATA problem.
