Description Sean 2021-02-28 04:56:17 UTC
Overview:
If I try to install an add-on to Firefox, it never gets installed.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Search for an add-on to install in Firefox (e.g. Ghostery).
2. Click on the blue "Add to Firefox" button.
3. A small permissions window will pop-up in Firefox near the address bar. Click on the "Add" button in that window.

Expected Results:
The add-on gets installed.

Actual Results:
The "Add to Firefox" button gets temporarily replaced by a gray box containing a blue dot that moves back and forth. Within a minute, the "Add to Firefox" button reappears, and the add-on has not been installed.

Build Date & Hardware:
Firefox 86.0_2,2, FreeBSD_version 1104001, Dell Vostro PC, amd64

I cannot reproduce inside 11.4 i386 and 12.2 amd64 jails: Ghostery installs fine.

Check your connection e.g., copy the URL to terminal then use fetch(1) to download the addon; install and enable Tor proxy in Firefox.

I was thinking about using the debug tool with Firefox to see what the problem was. Unfortunately, the hard drive on my system failed; therefore, I will not be able to continue troubleshooting this issue. Now I wonder if this issue was caused by the hard drive starting to fail. :-/

Oh well. Feel free to close the case. I will reopen it or create a new one if I ever encounter this issue again.
