Description stitzinger_r 2001-03-04 14:40:01 UTC
Laptop with 82371AB powermanagement controller freezes in batteryuse
for a short time while probing floppy and CD-ROM without doing explicit
access. This behaviour wasn't there in FreeBSD 3.1 and 4.0. Also
harddisk is pwoering down after a few seconds. Problem doesn't occure
in non-battery use except the harddisk seems t be powered down sometimes.

Fix:

compiling in and out of intpm, apm, smbus and pcm didn't help

problem is still existing under FreeBSD 4.5. When CD-ROM is removed
(TEAC CD-224E) computer is running without stops.
Problem also occures with line-power use, but not so often.
Computer is freezing for 10s
According to a Linux FAQ this can be due to a not correct electrical
implementation of the hardware (timing-problems). Also under DOS and
Linux the machine freezes, but only for ca. .5s. There is something
called "HeuristicPowerManagement" in the BIOS of this machine.

State Changed
From-To: open->closed

Closed: Submitter reported that this was a well-known hardware issue.
While marking this PR as "analysed" or "suspended" might also seem,
apropriate, I strongly doubt that it will ever be picked up (again).
