Testing in response to <https://forums.freebsd.org/posts/539483>

The GUI behaved as if a change might be effective – I responded to PolicyKit1 KDE Agent dialogue – however a change to my own password was not effective.

If I recall correctly this should all work fine if you have the necessary dbus accounty-stuff running.
