1- mention smartphones in the introduction sentence examples
2- add a troubleshooting tip, probably near the start of 18.4.1, with language along the lines of "If, after connecting a smartphone, dmesg(8) shows it was recognized but not as a storage device, check the smartphone's display. It may be asking for permission to let the attempt proceed."

(Brought to you by spending maybe 30 minutes scouring my logs and the docs, before giving up, checking my smartphone for something else, and seeing that message.)

We can't list all devices that are capable of storing data, even if smartphones are popular examples. The introduction sentence mentions "storage media" as a broad term. The following list of devices is by n means exhaustive, nor does it help the reader to have a huge list of examples there to introduce the chapter.
