It seems that port maintainers don't read bugzilla. Closing. (In reply to Steve Kargl from comment #1) Remark: you could commit it with "maintainer’s time-out". (In reply to Thierry Thomas from comment #2) I don't have a commit bit. There have been 3 version updates to openmpi, since this bug report was filed. Created attachment 232459 [details] Diff to build OpenMPI with Fortran 2008 support Fortran 2008 has been around since, well, 2008. It has actually been superseded by Fortran 2018, and Fortran 2023 is on the horizon. Building OpenMPI with modern Fortran seems to be a good idea.
