Summary: IDE Drive becomes corrupted after usage
Product: Base System Reporter: mgburch <mgburch>

Description mgburch 2001-04-02 01:30:00 UTC
I have tried to run 4.0, 4.1 & 4.1.1 on my compaq 486 router box but after a while the drive becomes corrupted.

Heavy usage seems to kill it (for example doing a make).
At first, errors reading files (syntax errors in compiles) then later it starts printing inodes errors and such and disk check utility can't fix it and finally it won't boot up properly.

I have no problems at all with 3.x and I am now running 3.5.1 on it (works great!).

Based on the symptoms, believe the IDE driver isn't working very well with the controller/drive.

If you want me to help diagnose this problem I need info on your system.

At least a dmesg from a verbose booted system would help...
