The claws-mail port is outdated so I wanted to contact the maintainer, but the listed email address at corecode@corecode.ath.cx is not valid.

Where did you get this address from? Maintainer of mail/claws-mail port is portmaster@bsdforge.com and there is pending PR for update, see https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=263059

which is only a comment, possibly no longer relevant. Look into Makefile.claws, line 5 starting with MAINTAINER=, that's relevant and actual one. Anyway, upgrade PR is pending...
