… and now I see, today's edition of 
<https://download.freebsd.org/ftp/snapshots/README.TXT> seems to leave 
<ftp://ftp.uk.freebsd.org/pub/freebsd/snapshots/README.TXT> outdated. 

Region-specific? Etc. … hopefully, not umpteen README files to consider … sorry!

ftp.uk is a community mirror provided by a third party.  They rsync on their own schedule.  Not much we can do other than wait.

Thanks, and sorry, I didn't realise that it's simply an (automated) mirror. 

Side note: I haven't properly got my head around mirroring. <https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/mirrors/> partly inconsistent with README.TXT files (I assume that the latter are significantly outdated).
