Description d.a.pavlov 2022-08-13 13:37:29 UTC
The newly released radeon and amdgpu drivers cause a system freeze,
the proprietary firmware can also be loaded at boot and it will too cause a system freeze, forcing one to resort to scfb or vesa drivers with worse performance and screen tearing.

Some of the earlier versions were working perfectly.

AMD R7 265, "Pitcairn" or Radeon HD 7850.
FreeBSD 13.1 Release AMD64.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

boot FreeBSD 13.1R amd64, uefi mode
1. XOrg is set to use either "amdgpu" or "radeon"
2. Startx (using any env, incl. TWM)

immediately after starting X the system freezes with a white cursor in the corner of the screen, no activity, must pull power to reboot.
there are no graphical artifacts of any kind appearing.
