I gained a response there, after which I spent considerable time privately seeking an explanation. 

More than a month after I first noticed the disappearance of <https://markmail.org/>: still no obvious explanation. 

I reckon: sadly, it's time to write MarkMail out of the doc tree. 

Attention to this limited scope report will allow reduction of broader bug 264754, for which my pull request was closed.

I'm fine with removing MarkMail references from all our documentation. It is unlikely that the site will come back.
