Bug 279892

Summary: /etc/mtree/BSD.root.dist: /etc/ntp is mode 0700 and does not belong to ntp
Product: Base System Reporter: Martin Birgmeier <d8zNeCFG>
Component: confAssignee: Warner Losh <imp>
Status: New ---
Severity: Affects Only Me CC: imp
Priority: ---
Version: 14.1-STABLE
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description Martin Birgmeier 2024-06-21 15:35:17 UTC
Scenario:
- FreeBSD 14.1 stable at a3a09bbf21dcd4f18b90e11023e0c26368bed4d2 with minor local changes

Result:
- /etc/mtree/BSD.root.dist sets /etc/ntp as 0700 root/wheel even though in /etc/rc.d/ntpd it is (should be) set to ntp/ntp

Expected result:
- /etc/mtree/BSD.root.dist should use the correct UID/GID for /etc/ntp
- It is not useful to set /etc/ntp to 0700 because it only contains the leap-seconds file, which is public knowledge

I'll take a look at this. On its surface, it seems like a problem.
