Bug 30820

Summary: [sound] PCM sound fails on ESS Solo-1E
Product: Base System Reporter: Vivek Khera <khera>
Component: kernAssignee: sound
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: 4.4-STABLE
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description Vivek Khera 2001-09-25 16:20:01 UTC

Upon boot, the sound device, ESS Solo-1 is still recognized. However, when
I try to use it, it either hangs or makes bad sounds. When KDE fires up, it
just makes a loud static noise. XEmacs tried to emit a sound and is now
wedged in "pcmsyn" state according to top.

Fix:

run old kernel, or disable sound.

Additional details:

From dmesg:
pcm0: <ESS Solo-1E> port 0x9400-0x9403,0x9800-0x9803,0xa000-0xa00f,0xa400-0xa40f,0xa800-0xa83f irq 5 at device 9.0 on pci0

The kernel config contains:

device pcm

It used to work on a kernel built back on July 5. Only addition to
this kernel is DEBUG=-g config.

Could you look at the patch in PR kern/30794 and see if it helps?

G'luck,
Peter

I tried it last thursday (with some line fudge since there are changes
to the code since the PR), and it did not work. That PR seems to
relate to resume after suspend, but I'm on a desktop, not a laptop.

I still have no luck with sound.

Hello Vivek,
I'm sorry it's taken such a long time to respond, is there any
chance you can test your sound device with a recent version of FBSD?

	Thanks,

I think this PR should be closed. I no longer have this machine...
being over 3 years old now :-)

Submitter had noted, some time back, that he no longer has this
machine, and thus the PR should be closed.
