tried making NEW boot disks on BRAND NEW 1.44disks, downloaded in BIN format and created using fdimage.exe in PURE DOS.. same result..

tried new ram... same result! download and burnt 4.4-install.iso.. same RESULT!!

How-To-Repeat: looks like maybe be an AMD-K6/2 CPU issue

my machine is AMD K6/2 450MHz, P5MVP3 Motherboard, 64Mb RAM, 10gig WD HD

   Are you able to install older release of FreeBSD on this hardware?

This (4.4-RELEASE install failure at mounting root from ufs:/dev/md0c)also
happens on my PC with genuine Intel Pentium 233 MMX/Intel430-TX MB/256MB
RAM/6.4GB Quantum/RealTek 10/100 PCI/Samsung SD-612 DVD-ROM.
I have no problems with 4.3-RELEASE installation.

Problem solved!

4.4-RELEASE installation requires enabling of 'Assign IRQ for USB' option
in AWARD BIOS. 4.3-RELEASE doesn't require it.

State Changed
From-To: open->closed

Probably interrupt storm requiring 'Assign IRQ for USB' in BIOS.
