I installed 4.4 on my hp xe749 containing a 3com ethernet card that att broadband recognizes.  At the configure ethernet dialog, the card was not detected.  I took the pci card put in an old packard bell
installed 4.4 from same disc and the card was recognized and dhcp worked and am connected.

How-To-Repeat: Get a xe740 install 4.4 and see if ethernet cards are detected

It would help a *lot* if you would tell us exactly which of 3Com's
Ethernet NIC's are you using.  Many people use 4.4 with many different
Ethernet cards.
