Bug 32096

Summary: vmware's vmnet1 device is not functional/Linux Compatibility Issues
Product: Base System Reporter: kjones <kjones>
Component: miscAssignee: freebsd-bugs (Nobody) <bugs>
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: Unspecified
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description kjones 2001-11-19 01:00:01 UTC
Installing Vmware after Nov 5, 2001 on a kernel cvsup'ed from after
that day (approximately) breaks the networking abilities of Vmware.
The problem seems to be with the linux networking code.

Fix:

Not known yet. The following patches are reported to work:

http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=2544092+2549364+/usr/local/www/db/text/2001/freebsd-questions/20011118.freebsd-questions

This is just a quick fix, obviously not a final solution.
How-To-Repeat: Install the vmware2 port from /usr/ports/emulators/vmware2 and install
a guest OS. Make sure the kernel of FreeBSD has been updated to 4.4-STABLE,
the most current release. (i.e. use cvsup)
